A Father's Day Limerick
At this time of year I'm not sure what to say,
A time to honor dads in a special way.
So I think really hard
End up buying a card,
All just to say "Happy Father's Day!"
I wrote that limerick for my father inside his Father's Day card. It's hard to know what to say to my father every year on this day. My father is a good man. He always took care of the family and put us first. He still works hard today and looks out for others.
He's the guy amongst family and friends who people go to for help. He is always doing favors for people so he always has plenty of people ready to do favors for him. He knows and gets along with everyone. Thankfully, those traits were present in the home too. It was not some outward act for others to praise. My father truly is a self-less caring man.
He taught me a lot by the example of his life. I just hope I can continue in his footsteps in these areas.
If you asked my wife she would tell you the same about me. Although I try, she won't let me disagree. But I know my shortcomings. I see them in my parenting. Sometimes I have to repent to my daughter. I explain to her that whatever I did was not proper for a Christian man, especially, a father.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4 ESV)
The more I understand God's holiness the more I see my sin. The more I understand what God expects of me as a father and head of my home the more I see my sin. The more I see my sin the greater I understand the grace of God the Father that is found in God the Son, Jesus Christ.
My heavenly Father continues to put up with and forgive my sins through the cross. How much better do I know and understand as an adult, yet I still sin before God? This is what I desire to model in my home for my family. I pray for the grace that God has shown me in my shortfalls to come through in my parenting.
Heavenly Father, thank You for my earthly father. Thank You for the privledge of being a father myself to such a wonderful daughter. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus so that I may believe in Him and have a right relationship with You. I pray the same for my father.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 ESV)
Happy Father's Day!

Thanks Mark, all my love and happyness to you and your family. DAD..
Thanks, "DAD".
Mark.
Fathers on earth need to also be the head of the family. Many Christian Father's lean too much to the children God has given them . They want to be buddies instead of the Father figure God wants of them.
So I like your blog. Very much. You may have not this little problem . I just want to bring this an open book. What I am saying and I see it. Teen's in the 2010. Are becoming more in control of things they want in the homes. From the parents in the home. Then the earthly Fathers being the head of the families. They become the so called puppets. yes son , yes daughter. If this happens. Where is the head of the home as God wanted it to be. The Father they do not need to be tough or hit or raise the voice. . I do not mean that. Look at the teens to-day. What time do they go to bed? Do you ever notice. Is it ten at night or eleven. Or is it two in the morning and they are still up. Does Dad say. Son. I think you need to go to bed. No they say it but no action is laid. They continue watching t.v or get up and go to bed and let the child go whenever.. Church day. Your waiting on the child or children at the front door. Why is that? Then you drive like mad to get to the church even though your ten minutes late. The preacher is already talking. It is not a parent in contol in the home. It is the teens who are in control. So another prayer needs to be prayed. God is the head of the home and the earthly father is obedient to the Lord. It is something to whole hardly think about. Pray about.
I know I read alot of testimonies from kids. The one thing was told in testimonies. If my parents would of set rules in my home.
Instead of being the buddy, buddy to me. I would of not been lead to follow the crowd. It was the late nights they let me go out and come in late. Where the troubles begin. If they had opened the home and let my friends come home. It would of been a whole lot better. Instead it was hanging out on the streets at the wrong places and wrong times. . I ruled my house the teens say and yes, my dad was my puppet on a string. Sad but true. My mom never sad no. She wanted to look like the wonderful Christian Mom and be looked up too. After all Christians have to look good. So the children sad to say. Rule the the Rooster. I am sure people are shaking their heads. Bee is right. If so. Lets take it to the Lord.
Parents. You need to look out for your children to be safe and wise on the streets. How many mishaps happen in those very early hours. . You never hear. Jim should of not been out so late. It is always. Jim was a good boy. He never did no wrong. Parents. Do you know what your child is doing when you let them be in the lead. Of course not. You let them out. You want to be the buddy, buddy dad.
I am sure your dad was not the dad of the 2010. He had rules. You knew what ones you obeyed.
God Bless.
