The modern Pharisees: Politicians on a pedestal part 2

Just the other day, we all watched as Bab's Boxer..........oh... excuse me...........Senator Boxer (D - Cal.) chided a Brigadier General about how he addressed her.   In an article entitled Modern Pharisees:  Politicians on a pedestal it refers to the fact that many politicians put themselves above the people;  the people who make it possible for Congressional members to receive their paychecks.  In other words they see or perceive themselves as being on a pedestal.  Video Below.

Barbara Boxer (Bab's for short) who doesn't want to be called Ma'am, apparently places herself on a pedestal high above that of Brigadier General Michael Walsh.  She said she "worked hard for the title of Senator".  Sorry Bab's, but  surely  the General has worked much harder and has had far fewer perks in getting to where he is.  Bab's, you make government look like exactly what it is, a comedy show.  Bab's, your arrogance far exceeds your importance in Congress.

Sadly this behavior is present in the "church" as well where people are more concerned about their titles (pastor, bishop etc) instead of the execution of that office.

I have a title. It comes with the position. I like it and like to hear it. Not because I have an big ego that needs fed or that I have worked hard to earn my title. Most people work hard for what they have accomplished, but most positions do not come with a title. I like to hear my title because it reminds me that I am more than just D. People have expectations and I have agreed to live up to those expectations. I am not your buddy, your nieghbor or your pal; I am your pastor. If I have a morale failure I am bringing down a host of others with me. If I say something cruel or stupid, it's not just me that I make look foolish, but everyone in every church. There's a lot to a title. I look forward to a die when I may retire and can be just me again, but until then everytime I hear my title I am reminded I have agreed to live to a higher standard.

D the pastor, you don't need a morale failure you already have a big head which I call PRIDE which come with your big ego, that comes with your so called "title" which actually is a function. You are supposed to be a foot washer. Do you even know what that is ? You need to crucify your ego/flesh so you can walk in the spirit. Its all about *you*. You sound like someone I know who once wanted to exalt himself above the throne of GOD. Please start doing the will of THE FATHER which JESUS says these are my brothers and sisters. Start to Shepherd the flock you have been assigned to and if need be lay down your life for them or does that not come with the pastor title. They need you more than you need your title. yes you do have a position on your face on the threshing floor so GOD can deal with you. Much love Gman

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

9 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Or maybe you just don't get it Jake. Especially coming from an institution that has historically sexist I see no big problem in her wanting to be called Senator. The unspoken implication that she's just " a little woman" is dispelled by that.

Of course, you don't like Barbara Boxer so you follow suit by calling her Babs. I'm sure no disrespect was intended. Right.

Sadly, I live in CA (a state that is going down the tubes!) and I hate the fact that Barbar Boxer and Diane Feinstein were elected here (I did not vote for them). They are both very arrogant women who do not listen to many of us they represent. I can not wait until they are out of office!! I still rememeber the day they got elected and the feeling of dread and disgust that I had. I'm sure many Californians regret voting for "Babs," though.

Is this really an issue? She wasn't being rude about it, she just wanted to be addressed by her title. Many professionals will request that you do the same. Just try going to court and refer to the judge as "Sir" or "Ma'am" to see how long it takes them to correct you.
