Teacher sues LA school dist. over gay agenda

California is one state that seems to be pushing the homosexual agenda more than any other.  With the cooperation of the National Education Association, a teachers union, the state of California seems to take pride in promoting abnormal (not alternative) lifestyles.  And now, we see what can happen to a teacher who holds fast to moral values.

Manuel Fernandez, a special education teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District has filed a discrimination suit against LAUSD, saying he was forced to quit for not showing enough support for the pro-homosexual emphasis at his school.

Problems began for Fernandez in the spring of 2007, when he was chastised for not buying and wearing a red “Day of Silence” t-shirt.  Administrators at the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex, where Fernandez taught in the Social Justice learning community, strongly encouraged teachers to participate in the pro-homosexual Day of Silence, even though the event bills itself as a student-led protest. Shortly after Fernandez declined to buy and wear the shirt, he received a written review that rebuked him, stating that he “sometimes had difficulty understanding his colleagues’ attempts at incorporating issues of social justice into the curriculum and, at times, he has not been supportive of those issues, such as LGBTQ rights.” LGBTQ is an acronym increasingly used to mean Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning.

Fernandez also drew fire for voicing the requests of his predominantly Hispanic Catholic students that a pro-gay poster be moved inside to a classroom bulletin board so they would not have to walk under it several times a day. Fernandez was then shunned by fellow teachers and administrators, given larger, more unruly classes, moved to a less desirable location, and ordered not to send any problem students to the principal’s office. Fernandez eventually sought medical treatment for stress and related medical problems and finally placed on medical leave by his physician after more than a year of harassment. Fernandez’ lawsuit, filed in state court and removed by LAUSD to federal court, alleges First Amendment violations and discrimination, harassment and retaliation under state employment laws.

Jake, what exactly is the homosexual agenda? All my gay friends just want to live the same boring life that my straight friends do.

Before faith came, we were held in custody under law, confined for the faith that was to be revealed. Consequently, the law was our disciplinarian for Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a disciplinarian. For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus.

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought u

While all people everywhere deserve respect, ideas have to earn them. Because I reject the prevailing cultural view that homosexuality is morally acceptable, it does not mean I reject or despise the person who practices it. The teacher in this situation was exercising his right to reject an idea he disagrees with. We can genuinely love people and not have to go along with their idea of right and wrong. To take this a step further, it is, in fact, an act of love to warn people that their souls are in peril. There is no virtue in remaining silent. Homosexuality is a sin but the fact is that we are ALL sinners (whether we're gay or straight) who need the only Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord. He is ready to forgive if we are only willing to admit and confess our sin to Him. The Apostle Paul said himself, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,of whom I am the greatest." We are all just beggars trying to tell other beggars where to find Bread!

Replying to Gary - Gary, to an extent your observation is correct. There have been (and sadly always will be) many things done in the name of Christianity but the fruit thereof is anything but genuinely Christian. However, the abuse of an ideology does not negate its validity. To see what true Christianity is, we must look at Christ Jesus Himself, the only Sinless one, full of mercy, grace and truth. He came into the world to save sinners, of whom I can personally say I am the greatest. He came to reveal who God is and who we are in relationship to God. He is a friend of Sinners! He is the Savior! To be a Savior, there must be people to save!! He categorically, unequivocally opposed to "religiosity" and hypocrisy. Who could not love such a One as He??!! He promised the so-called religious leaders of His day that harlots and tax collectors would go into the Kingdom of Heaven before they would!! That promise is still true! Gary, look at Him alone with eyes of faith.

Gary, you're right - some sins are picked on more than others and that in itself is a sin. The Lord says "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." If we are truly converted to Christ, the Holy Spirit Himself enables us to live in a way that is pleasing to God, not necessarily pleasing to the general population. But we can't do it in human strength. We need the constant assistance of the Holy Spirit. To your point about the Lord's table - in an authentically, biblical church, the Lord's table is open to anyone who truly and earnestly repents. That means a willingness to turn away from sin and towards God. The Lord came to call sinners to repentance, not the righteous! The Lord's table is a remembrance of His sacrifice on the Cross. It is reminder that His blood covers all sin (including divorce, adultery, homosexuality, lying, stealing, murder, etc.) not just certain ones. It died for you and me and anyone else who is willing to receive Him by faith.

(excuse the type) ...that is, CHRIST died for you and me and anyone else who is willing to receive HIM.

Gary, and how does one correct the original wrong of murder? Yet, God in Christ forgives even murderers if they truly repent. The difference between the repentant and unrepentant is the pure mercy and grace of God. We cannot earn or merit God's favor. None of us can ever undo the wrong that's been done against Almighty God and (in many cases the people whom we've wronged.) That's why Christ came. Christ Jesus bore the penalty for our sins, no matter what they were, are or will be. Once we receive Him as Lord and Savior, it's His love for us and our love for Him in return that makes us hate sin in whatever shape or form it is. In God's eyes there are no degrees of sin.

Think of it this way, are you truly sorry for your divorce, both parties, if you don't continue fixing it to make it work?

I'm sorry, but I think you're out of your theological league here, and that's why gays will always be indignant that your love is disingenuous.

Gary, what you are having difficulty grasping is the extent to which God forgives. True repentance means that the slate has been wiped clean. "As far as the East is from the West so far hath He removed our transgressions from us." Psalm 103:12 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. Christ will give us a new life! Gary, you will always be disappointed and bitter if you measure yourself (or your sins) against other people. The standard is Christ alone.

    Servant,
I wouldn't read that as bitter. I'm concerned for your immortal soul. I'm loving you, don't you see, by pointing out where you're wrong.

And I'll be damned if you use your lukewarm understanding to trick other people into hell. Someone has to stand for the truth.

And I have to say...what a sad day to meet a Christian who tries to make divorce seem OK. Who can't even accept that their own reasoning gives no right to condemn gays or call them out for their sin.

Jesus is not some cloth that you use to clean yourself every time you transgress. Wiping the slate clean, as you liken it. Yes, there is the power of forgiveness, but you must be sincere, you must relinquish what you gain from it. You cannot truly be sincere in your heart if you have gained something from an ill deed and make no effort to purge that from yourself.

All you're engaging in is in moralistic therapeutic deism.

I don't know how you concluded that I agree with divorce. God hates divorce and so do I. What I'm trying to make clear to you is that there is no sin that Christ will not forgive if there is true repentance. But only God truly knows what's in our hearts and what we do when nobody is watching. We all deserve Hell but thanks be to God for His indescribable gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Given the tenor of your latest post, I think it best that I conclude my part in this dialogue. Gary, it's always easier to point out the aggregate evil in the world rather than see it in ourselves. I personally have nothing to boast about except the Cross of Christ my Savior.

It seems to me that Gary does not have an evangelical Christian view of things, he has more of a mainstream denomination view.

Being gay is not normal. They are nice people for now (until get enough power, and make what they did in Roman and Persian Empires). Anyway, what's in being gay to be proud of?
