Dateline: Canaan – There was a report today that problems have arisen between Abram and his nephew Lot over grazing rights. Evidently the land surrounding Bethel and Hai is not sufficient for both Abram and Lot’s cattle to graze together, so in an unprecedented move, Abram suggested to Lot to chose to remove to either the right or the left with his herds, and Abram would remove to the other. Sources tell us that Lot chose the plain of Jordan, a well-watered section of the land of Canaan resembling the garden of Eden or the land of Egypt along the Nile River. It seems that Lot chose to pitch his tent in the vicinity of Sodom, a wicked and licentious city.
And now, the rest of the story: it seems that God has once more spoken to Abram, after he and Lot separated. Sources close to Abram tell us that God said:
Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. (Genesis 13:14-17)
Only time will tell whether these promises of God will come to pass or not.
