UPDATED 23 FEBRUARY 2010. Pilots for Germany's Lufthansa airline went on strike at midnight February 22, then called off the labor action on February 23. Many flights have been canceled and normal service may take several days to restore.
Following the shortened strike, union and management have agreed to more talks. The pilots union, which is seeking a 6.4 percent wage increase. The airline is implementing cost-cutting measures and has rejected the bid for higher wages.
Lufthansa pilots last went on strike in 2001. The action lasted three days and resulted in significant flight cancellations.
