Rosie, the Butterfly Pavilion's tarantula, at Front Range Bird event
I have a sticker on my shirt thanks to Michele Melio, Denver Green Initiative Examiner. It says, "I held Rosie." In case you didn't know, Rosie is a tarantula who allows people to hold her in their hand--briefly.
Actually, there are several Rosies at the the Butterfly Pavilion, because tarantulas are pretty good with people, but they do get tired and then another "Rosie" has to take over greeting the kids.
Anyway, after holding Rosie, who really is quite a dear, I asked Michele about books on cooking with bugs, and she sent me three titles:
Creepy Crawly Cuisine by Julieta Ramos-Elorday, Ph D.
Man Eating Bugs by Peter Menzel & Faith D. Aluisio
The Eat-A-Bug Cookbook by David George Gordon
I know Rosie probably wouldn't approve, but I think I'll have to check these out. After all, to save the planet we may have to stop eating meat and bugs have lots of protein, don't they?
