Wawali Bonane (visit iTunes page) has called the Seattle area home for nearly twenty years. The veteran Soukous/Rumba singer has been laying low of late -- but behold -- he has been yanked out in order to once again, delight fans of African music with his signature voice and charismatic stage performances. The last time one could check him out on fairly regular bases was at the Bohemian (2000?). Since then, he's had spotty gigs here and there and has done some traveling. However, an artist of his caliber residing among us, should treat his neighbors to his impeccable talents regulary.
Wawali has recorded and or performed with such legendary artists like: Nyboma, Tabu Ley Rochereau, Koffi Olomide, and more. His album credits include Bayaya, Eduma, and most recently Resolve. He and his band Yoka Nzenze are featured on masterful compilation CD entitled Safarini: Music of African Immigrants. Wawali is scheduled to appear regularly on Sunday nights at the Babalu - The Mambo Room, in Wallingford.

Hey what about HUIT KILOS, perhaps the best soukous guitar player in the world? He apparently lives in Seattle as well.
Huit Kilos will be playing with Wawali August 7 at Scarlet Tree
