NJ's Lance predicts overwhelming victory for GOP if HCR passes

Leonard Lance (official photo)

Representative Leonard Lance (R-NJ-7) predicted yesterday that if the healthcare-reform bill passes and is signed into law, the Republican Party will not only retake the House of Representatives but will be in an "overwhelming majority."

Lance made his remarks at a 35-minute press conference held by 12 GOP freshman Representatives. Many of them predicted various other types of disaster for patient care itself, or the national economy, according to Politico.com. Lance was the only one quoted as predicting electoral disaster for Democrats.

Lance pointed out that Social Security and Medicare initially passed with Republican votes.

If this were to pass tomorrow, it will pass without a single Republican vote either in the House or the Senate. This is not the way to proceed on fundamental reform here in the United States.

Whether or not Lance is correct about "without a single vote...in the House" depends on how Representative Anh Joseph Cao, R-LA-2, votes this time. He was the sole Republican to vote in favor of the bill last time. How he would vote this time was not clear at posting time. Lance went on:

Historically, if this were to occur tomorrow, it’s based upon one party control. And if this does occur, and if the president signs it into law, we [the GOP] will be overwhelmingly in the majority next year in the House of Representatives.

Lance is not the only New Jersey congressman to protest the healthcare-reform bill. Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ-11),  who will officially announce his bid for re-election tomorrow at VFW Post 3401, 45 Tabor Road, Morristown, NJ, recently used a "one-minute speech" to protest the procedure by which, in effect, the Democrats now propose to pass healthcare reform without an actual vote on the bill itself, but a vote instead on a self-executing rule that "deems" the bill to have been passed already.

New Jersey's 7th congressional district borders Essex County along Morris and Millburn Avenues, which also are on the border of Millburn. It includes parts of Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, and Union Counties. The 11th district includes all of Morris County and parts of Somerset, Essex, Sussex and Passaic Counties.

I predict that the Health Care Reform Bill will pass to the gratitude of the majority of the American people and that Leonard Lance will not win re-election. There are many Democrats in his district who will work harder than ever to see that his Democratic opponent is elected. He should be ashamed of his voting record since he became a member of Congress.

The bill that passed just now is fantastic step forward for the people and underscores that we are a great and compassionate country. I am extremely disappointed in Congressman Lance's vote and will personally work to defeat him in November. I had greater hopes for Congressman Lance.

I fully agree with this assertion, the people may have a chance to take back their country...now to help them wake up!
