The New Jersey chapter of Americans for Prosperity is planning a rally outside the West Deptford office of Senator Stephen M. Sweeney (D-3-Gloucester), the President of the Senate, to pressure him to schedule confirmation hearings on Governor Chris Christie's nominee to replace Supreme Court Associate Justice John E. Wallace.
AFP-New Jersey has been planning this rally since Friday, and will hold it outside Sweeney's office at 935 King's Highway, Suite 400, in West Deptford. The rally will take place at noon on Tuesday, May 18. The Morristown Tea Party announced the rally last night at its primary-challengers' forum in Morristown.
AFP-New Jersey, headed by Steve Lonegan, has praised Christie's decision to replace Wallace since the day it was announced. Calling the New Jersey Supreme Court "one of the most activist courts in the nation," Lonegan accuses the Court of "mak[ing] law from the bench, ignor[ing] our state constitution, and usurp[ing] the authority of the other branches of government." He cited the Court's decisions in the twenty Abbot v. Burke cases and the two Mount Laurel cases as the worst and most costly examples.
Since then, of course, Sweeney has refused even to schedule a hearing for Christie's nominee, Riker Danzig partner Anne M. Patterson, until March of 2012, when Wallace would reach his 70th birthday and thus be constitutionally compelled to retire. This prompted at least one Tea Party group in the State to call upon New Jerseyans to flood Sweeney's office, and those of Senators Nick Scutari and Ray Lesniak, with letters, calls, and FAXes. (Scutari heads the Judiciary Committee, and Lesniak sits on that commmittee.) AFP-NJ has determined to do something more: to encourage people to, in their words:
Tell Senator Sweeney how you feel in person!
Registration for the rally, and for bus transportation, is free of charge. Buses will depart from AFP's Bogota headquarters, the Monmouth Service Area on the Garden State Parkway, the Blue Heron Park and Ride lot in Sparta, and the VFW Post on Route 10 in Whippany. The departure times are 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 9:30 a.m., respectively.

Having free transportation is a huge help for people I am sure- sounds like an interesting event - are you attending?
It's great when folks get involved, and civil protesting is a great way to do that.
