The late actor and horseman Patrick Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi, will be honored by the Arabian Horse Foundation with an annual youth scholarship. Patrick Swayze died in September 2009 at age 57, after a lengthy struggle with pancreatic cancer.
The Arabian Horse Foundation announced the creation of the memorial youth scholarship on November 27th, in honor of the late actor.
Star of such films as Dirty Dancing, Ghost and Roadhouse, Patrick Swayze also bred, raised and showed Arabian horses.
Current Movie Reviews quoted Larry Kinneer, Arabian Horse Foundation president. “[The Patrick Swayze memorial scholarship] creates a lasting testimony to their careers in dancing, theater, and movies and love of the Arabian breed and contributions over the years to Arabian Horse Association youth programs,” Kinneer said.
Students may file online for the Patrick Swayze Memorial Scholarship. Applications are due April 1, 2010, for the 2010-2011 academic year. Each spring, the Arabian Horse Foundation will present the award to a youth participating with Arabian horses and seeking a career in the performing arts.
The Arabian Horse Foundation is the philanthropic component of the Arabian Horse Association.
