The perfect time to get out and enjoy all things equine is Memorial Day weekend. And with a great weather forecast and plenty of activities planned, there should be no shortage of horsey fun. Here are a few ideas:
The Three Ring Circus Schooling Show: This schooling show, which generally has as many entries as some recognized shows, is always bustling with energy, as the name implies. With dressage, jumper, and hunter classes, there is always something going on to keep spectators entertained. The show is held Sunday, May 30th at Carriage House Farm in Hugo, MN. For more information or directions, visit St. Croix Saddlery's website.
MN NBHA Dsitrict 6 Hosted Barrel Race: Prefer western for Memorial Day? Head up to Verndale, MN for a weekend of barrel racing. Be sure to catch the MBRA Open Barrel Racing Jackpot beginning Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Check out the Minnesota Barrel Racing Association's website for more details and directions.
Memorial Day Races at Canterbury Park: With two legs of the Triple Crown down and only Belmont left to go, many of us have caught racing fever. Add in the fact that Canterbury is offering free admission for the entire year and has recently opened their newly renovated card casino and the track is bound to be a hot spot for the long weekend. Live racing runs all weekend, with a 7 p.m. post time on Friday and 1:30 p.m. post times Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Head out on Monday to enter to win a year's worth of gas from Kwik Trip. For more information, head to Canterbury Park.
