Wisconsin equestrians (and horse-loving friends) are collecting sponsorships and saddling up for a ride-a-thon on June 26th to benefit a 19-year-old burn victim.
Chelsea Wardecke and her friend Jake Ulsh were both burned in a mobile home fire on May 7, 2010. Jake Ulsh was treated at St. Vincent Hospital and released the following day, but Chelsea Wardecke is still hospitalized in Milwaukee – having suffered severe burns on 75 percent of her body.
On Saturday, June 26th, equestrians in Wisconsin (and other areas) will ride their horses (or walk or bike) on various measured trail systems to earn donations from ride sponsors. Proceeds from the Chelsea Wardecke Ride-a-Thon will help to cover the Wisconsin teen’s major medical expenses.
Chelsea Wardecke Ride-a-thon registration and sponsorship forms are available online. Participants may pick their own measured trail systems for riding on June 26th.
Ride-a-Thon prizes to be offered
Organizers of the Chelsea Wardecke Ride-a-thon (including Mary Wardecke Luzinski of On-the-Rail Equestrian Center) will award prizes to trail riding participants for the most miles ridden, the most sponsors enrolled and the most money collected.
Prizes will be presented at a special benefit event for Chelsea Wardecke, beginning at noon on Sunday, July 11th. This event will take place at Cross Lake Inn, in Trevor, Wisconsin. Festivities will feature food, games, karaoke, music, raffles and a silent auction. Auctioned items include Montgomery Gentry concert tickets (for the 2010 Wisconsin State Fair), Green Bay Packer/Chicago Bears football tickets, Milwaukee Brewers tickets and more.
Tickets to the Chelsea Wardecke benefit event on July 11th cost $10.00.
