Actor and activist Edward Norton and musician Alanis Morissette appeared this week on Larry King Live to promote Earth Hour, which is considered a “vote for Earth” event.
Tonight, Saturday March 28, at 8:30pm, thousands of major cities around the world, will turn off their lights in solidarity to reducing green house emissions on a global scale.
Larry King’s questions revealed that he was not fully aware of the connection between turning off lights and reducing C02 pollution. Ed Norton explained that, although it is mostly a symbolic gesture, most light bulbs are manufactured from coal powered facilities. In addition to the obvious, when lights are off, energy is reduced.
Alanis Morisette was more philosophical about her participation in self-driven efforts to reduce energy, and seemed to promote the standard of recycle, reduce, and reuse as a way that we can all be involved. Kudos to Norton and Morissette for using their celebrity status to bring awareness to this important issue.
Tonight the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate bridge, to name a few national landmarks, will be dark for an hour in support of the global effort.
April 22, 2009, will be Earth Day, and give us all another chance to make our voices heard in the urgent fight to reduce harmful greenhouse gases in our atmosphere and reduce global warming.
LIGHTS OUT!
