Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced Thursday that the University of Texas at Austin is one of seven organizations receiving funding to develop sequestration technology training projects. The $8.4 million made available by the U.S Department of Energy will be used to train site developers, geologists, engineers, and technicians in order to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technologies for CO2 sequestration.

“These projects will train workers for a clean energy economy and help position the United States as a leader in carbon capture and storages technologies for years to come”, said Secretary Chu.

Texas, that according to recent research by the Pew Charitable Trusts ranks second behind California in number of clean energy jobs, recently approved legislation that will create significant state-level incentives for the development of clean coal technology.
