Answering a call from Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, European car manufacturers BMW and Volkswagen now promise to release models able to operate on natural gas. BMW will make four models, capable to run on either gasoline or natural gas, available next year, and Volkswagen a range of bi-fuel models. Both manufacturers will use conversion kits supplied by Italian based BRC.

The decision came after a government policy, requiring car manufacturers to dedicate 30% of their production to natural gas vehicles, was put in place last month. President Hugo Chavez has also promised Venezuelans to exchange old gasoline vehicles with free natural gas cars.
