Best earth-friendly Texan 2008: T. Boone Pickens

In July 2008 Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens presented The Pickens Plan, an energy independence plan aimed to reduce the United States dependence on foreign oil. The reason? Mr. Pickens found the dependence on foreign oil to form the intersection of the three most critical issues America currently faces - the economy, the environment and national security.

“World oil production peaked in 2005”, Mr. Pickens said, “oil is getting more expensive to produce, harder to find and there just isn't enough of it to keep up with demand. The simple truth is that cheap and easy oil is gone”.

The solution to the problem, Mr. Pickens says, is to make use of the domestic energy alternative that already exists. The United States has the world’s greatest wind power corridor and rich reserves of natural gas. A combination that can replace one third of the U.S oil import in 10 years, Mr. Pickens points out.

The Pickens Plan, that so far has the support of 1.3 million members, calls for the construction of new wind energy facilities that will produce 20% of the U.S electricity and allow for the use of natural gas as transportation fuel.

T. Boone Pickens is named best earth-friendly Texan 2008 for his inspiring decision to take action.  Mr. Pickens has re-energized Americans tired of oil dependence, high gas prices, and skeptical that neither the new Administration nor the new Congress are up to the challenge.

As long as we are dependent on the resources of foreign nations, we will be prone to economic hardships brought on by those nations levying our own needs against us.

    T. Boone Pickens deserves this recognition. I support everything he is trying to accomplish.

Now, I wish he would come here to southwestern Indiana and awaken all the utility executives and assorted power players in this part of the country from their protracted denial and slumbers.

We need wind and solar now!

Our present national debt tallies up to some 10 trillion dollars plus. If we don't get off of Foreign Oil. In the next 10 years we will be spending a minimum of 10 More trillion dollars just for fuel!! This is a no-brainer folks!!!

    Caroline,

Thanks for your coverage of the Pickens Plan and Boone's efforts to break the stranglehold foreign oil imports exert on our nation's national security, economic well being, struggle to preserve our environment and our growth.

We all see the need, we see the harm the lack of a plan and reliance on foreign oil to power our nation has caused.

    Boone has the plan.
