The astonishing news from the Climate Research Unit (CRU) continues.
The Sunday Times reports that the scientists at the CRU at the University of East Anglia admitted that they threw away “much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.”
The CRU made this admission in response a Freedom of Information request. Scientists who have sought access to this data for years now learn that the raw data was purportedly dumped in the 1980’s.
Without access to the raw temperature data, no one can check the CRU’s calculations that show a rise in temperatures over the past 150 years. All that is available is the “valued-added” data, which Jonathan Leake of the Times described as “quality-added and homogenized” data.
Phil Jones, the current head of the CRU and party to many of the controversial leaked emails, was not at the helm at the time of the data destruction. Jones, however, did use the databases created from the raw data to show global warming, and he linked this rise to the rise in greenhouse gases.
The Times further points out that the “[CRU] findings are one of the main pieces of evidence used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which says global warming is a threat to humanity.

The rest of the CRU work should be filed in the same receptical. I read through some more of the eye-opening emails over the weekend. The snively arrogance of Michael Mann and his contempt for anyone or any paper that dares challenge his one-dimensional thinking is quite revealing. One would think he was Mr. Perfect, yet his name is the one attached to the erroneous "hockeystick" graph that Gore and IPCC held high, like a religious icon, until Steve McIntyre and McKitrick showed that using Mann's model similar results were obtained using almost any series of numbers. I don't think one can trust anything the IPCC used in their various climate assessment findings that came from CRU.
