Robert Pattinson helped "New Moon" make $140.7 million.
"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" was of course #1 at the weekend box office, but the real surprise was that the film, starring teen sensations Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, managed to take in a whopping $140.7 million in its opening weekend. It broke the record for a single-day performance with $72.7 million on Friday, but overall the weekend couldn't measure up to "The Dark Knight" or "Spider-Man 3."
To say that "New Moon" exceeded box office expectations would be an understatement, as many people expected the film to bow somewhere in the $100 million range. It managed to double the gross of the original "Twlight" movie and worldwide the film already has a quarter million in the bank. (Not bad for a film with a $50 million budget.)
There was another surprise at the box office this weekend, as well; "The Blind Side," the football film starring Sandra Bullock, opened with an impressive $35 million. Last week's blockbuster, "2012," finished third with $25 million.
Are you surprised that "New Moon" did so well? Let me know what you think!

I am not surprised at all. You think that by now people would realize how strong and amazing the twilight phenomenon is because of the amazing dedicated fans. Twihards are a force that can't be stopped.
