Eminem returns with a new CD, a live performance and Sasha Baron Cohen's butt in his face

Eminem wondering what the hell Sasah Baron Cohen is doing up there

When Eminem first came on the scene I'll admit that I believed that he was a one-clever-hook guy who you will see on a Time Life infomercial in 20 years selling a compilation of one-hit wonder rap artists at 2 a.m. Oops! My bad.

Not only has he kept it going big time, he's got to be the most entertaining, funny and talented rap artist out there.

Marshall Mathers keeps it interesting and his new CD "Relapse," which shot out of the box at number one, sold more than 600,000 copies in its first week. Not bad in this era where you can always find someone on the internet who will provide you with anything you want for free.

It seems that people still want to know what he's up to, personally and artistically. Artistically, they wait for and anticipate his next recording, then rush out to buy it. Although his personal life has certainly had its share of controversy and spectacle, you don't really see him plastered all over the tabloids. Probably because he doesn't care what anyone thinks or says, and there aren't a lot of paparazzi in Rochester, Michigan.

His two-song performance Sunday night on the MTV Movie Awards was well-received by the live audience and reviewers. Following his set, after returning to his seat, Bruno (Sasha Baron Cohen), the flamboyantly gay fashion reporter character, flew into the theater (literally) with Victoria Secret-like wings and landed right on top of Eminem with his thighs wrapped around the rappers head and his exposed buttocks mooning the ceiling. Eminem reacted in disgust, and after a few profanities was finally pried away by his bodyguards and went storming out of the room.

Was it all a set up? Was he really outraged? No one is really sure yet, but if it was real I know that Eminem probably now sees that it was good for his current promotional push. Now the news media is covering the butt-in-face incident, and you really can't do that without mentioning Eminem's new CD or Sasha's new movie. Good job guys.

Some are calling Eminem's reemergence a revival, but I don't think he was gone long enough for that to be the case. His older music is still selling and getting airplay, and his new album seems to have the familiar edge and celebrity name-calling that personified his "I couldn't care less what you think" attitude early in his career. Is it a bit forced? Perhaps. But it sure seems to work.

It was rather odd seeing some of the celebrities whom Eminem lambastes, clapping and bobbing their heads while he was performing on the MTV Movie Awards. But hey, all of the cruel viciousness in his music is all in fun, right?

What did we learn about Eminem? He's back, and he's proud.
