The Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch television show will be undergoing major changes now that Captain Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie has died due to a massive stroke. The Associated Press reported on Wednesday:
"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end," sons Josh and Jake Harris said in a statement released by the network. "For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down."
In a statement, Discovery Channel senior vice president Elizabeth Hillman says, "Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart," she said.
The Discovery Channel website is dedicated in tribute to Captain Phil Harris. View the website here: http://dsc.discovery.com.
Seattle is already re-stocking its waterfront shelves in stores along Western Avenue where Deadliest Catch merchandise has always been sold. The Alaskan crew of the Cornelia Marie has been accepted into the hearts and homes of Seattle residents since it first sailed onto television in nearby Alaska five seasons ago.
