Former Idol Constantine Maroulis- This Rocker is going places!

Constantine Maroulis Album Cover WIKI

American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis has been nominated for a Tony Award for his role in the Broadway Hit “Rock of Ages. The cross-over from Rocker to Broadway star is not always a smooth transition as Rock of Love's  Brett Michaels found out during a live performance with “Rock of Ages cast on the Tony Awards last broadcast. He barely escaped the set landing on his head as he took his final bow. However rocker Maroulis seems to have found his niche on the Broadway stage.

He received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical on May 5, 2009. He has been receiving rave reviews form the likes of Rolling Stones Magazine, AP, New York Times and Chicago Tribune just to name a few.

Rolling Stone:  "play has found a perfect lead in American Idol rocker Constantine Maroulis,"

Associated Press: Maroulis "gives a touching performance and sings powerfully as Drew, the young wannabe rock singer."

New York Times: describing his voice as “soulful, pure, and intense”

Chicago Tribune: singling out his “dazzling vocal pyrotechnics” as a standout in the production.

The stage production of Rock of Ages began running Off-Broadway at the New World Stages in October 2008. Later it moved to Broadway in spring 2009 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 7. There are even bigger plans for the show in the works, as Rock of Ages has been chosen to be made into a film by New Line Cinema. As of today I was not able to confirm if Maroulis will be in the film, or not. Some of Maroulis’s other acting roles have been in the role of "Sammy" in the Broadway musical version of “The wedding Singer”, and in 2007 the role of “Young Soldier” in the off Broadway musical review “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris”.

Constantine Maroulis is originally from New Jersey, he came to fame during his appearance on American Idol. While competing he gave a memorable performance of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. He was one of Idols first successful Rockers to make it on Idol even winning the approval of the “hard to please” judge Simon Cowell. He later recorded a version of the track for Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen. It was released on August 9, 2005 on Queen's label, Hollywood Records, which is a division of Universal. His debut rock Album was self titled “Constantine” . In it’s first week it reached #75 on the Billboard 200, selling around 9,000 copies in its first week.

Maroulis along with "Rock of Ages" cast appeared on ABC’s “The View” Friday July 31st, and will appear Sunday August 2, on IFC’s series “Z ROCK” which airs Sundays on IFC ( check your local listings).

He is one Rocker to watch!

Would be so disappointed if Constantine was not cast in the movie. He makes the show, and I would not go see the movie if anyone else was cast in his role.

Absolutely, Constantine should play the part. I fear though they would try to fit Zac Efron into the part because he seems to be the hottest musical commodity right now.

Constantine "wears" Drew like a second skin. I think he would be fabulous in the movie, and can't wait to have his performance on dvd so I can watch this great little show over and over. If you have not seen this show in NYC, please go, it is one singular sensation.

Constantine IS Drew. The role fits him to a T. He does an amazing job of bringing him to life 8x a week on the Broadway stage, to the delight of packed houses every night. It would truly be a travesty if he were passed over for the film role.

WHAT are all of you smoking he has been consistently mediocre in everything he has done so far his nomination was a filler thats it. I feel that they should put him in the film only because it will be cheaper to hire him but the box office likes numbers thus the parts going to EFRON!

Absolutely he should! He is phenominal in the part and absolutely deserves to be given the role in the movie. I would hate to see Rock of Ages "sugared down" with Effron!
