According to People magazine, the night before Sarah Palin announced her resignation as governor of Alaska, Todd Palin called his father Jim and said "Sarah's making an announcement tomorrow. Can you be there?"
"Father-in-law Palin" was apparently on a fishing trip in Kenai trying to catch some salmon when the call came.
"I didn't know what was coming and I didn't ask," said Jim Palin. "I couldn't get back because I had a commitment. If I had been home, I would have been there."
Instead of attending the awkward press conference, Jim went on to catch plenty of salmon. But, shortly before noon, the announcement of Gov. Palin's resignation came.
"Wow!" said Palin. "We had no idea it was coming. Nobody seemed to know; they're extremely private people."
