Christian Bale will don the bat suit once again beginning next year as shooting is scheduled to start on the sequel to last summer's biggest box office hit and one of the highest grossing movies of all time, The Dark Knight.
Gary Oldman, who portrays Commissioner Gordon in the Batman film franchise, broke the news Friday at Comic-Con in San Diego, California.
"The next Batman is shooting next year. It's at least two years away. But you didn't hear it from me," Oldman said.
Rumors abound over who will portray the next Batman villain.
For months, there has been speculation that Eddie Murphy would portray the Riddler. But recently on The Tonight Show, Murphy told host Conan O'Brien that he hasn't been approached about a role. Nonetheless, he expressed appreciation for the rumors and didn't rule out the possibility of accepting a role if one is ultimately presented.
Similarly, there is speculation today that Johnny Depp has been asked to play the new nemesis to the Caped Crusader in next year's sequel.
Yet, if Depp's experience is anything like Murphy's, there's an excellent possibility that the Pirate's of the Caribbean star hasn't been asked either to reunite with his Public Enemies co-star Christian Bale for the next Batman film.
Only time will tell.
But at least the time is now drawing near.
