Mariah Carey has gotten more attention lately for the suspected jabs she directs at Eminen in her new single "Obsessed" than she is getting for the song itself.
The music video for “Obsessed” – the first track from her upcoming “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” due out Aug. 25 - has a lot of fans talking this weekend. But many have reserved their usual glowing reviews for the diva.
"The video just doesn't feel like a Mariah Carey video," writes "Marie" on an MTV message board. "It's about Eminem and just the general crap that comes with being famous and a media figure. The video is boring and it sucks. And I love Mariah."
Many other fans weighing in publicly are voicing similar concerns.
Through her husband Nick Cannon, Carey has backed away from allegations that she is taking a swipe at Eminem. "I don't think she would take her time," Canon said. "My wife doesn't beef. She's Mariah Carey. She's not beefin', she's a vegetarian."
Nonetheless, some of her biggest fans - while still completely adoring of their favorite star - have reservations about the "tone" Mariah strikes in her latest offering.

Mariah changed for the worst way back in 1999 when she appeared half dressed for her "Rainbow" cover. She has been going downhill...both in music quality and class ever since then. This is 'Supposed' to be one of the greatest women in the history of music and she does nothing but dumb down her talent and compromise her own art to sell records. It was when she did that that she lost me as a huge fan years ago.
The fact that she would even waste time with a song and video OBVIOUSLY directed at someone so below her is telling in itself.
The woman is beautiful, but she doesn't present herself that way. She is too busy trying to compete with the half dressed non talented tarts of the business rather than present herself as a grown woman who can sing her butt off. She has certainly fallen far down the ladder in my opinion.

The video is cute..and funny. Luv the sense of humor she has about herself, cause once again she pokes fun at her diva reputation. And LOVE the song. It is soooo HOTTTTT!! Happens to be her highest singe debut since 1998. And she's wearing more clothes than she used to, and it looks better. Love that Mimi.

The comment EM made to Mariah is what is so below her. I am suprised to hear a woman advise that she should not say anything when a #1 charding artist says such awful things about a woman (urinating on her?). IF the track is to EM (which she says it's not) it was done in a very classy way. We women still need to stick together - What EM said about her publicly was not right. If someone said that about me, I'd at least hope I am ALLOWED to say it never happened! This is not 1820, or is it?

Michael Essany, you asked are we disappointed in Mariah's new video. Here is a woman who has been around for 20 years. Her single Obsessed hits and it's so surprisingly good that everyone's jaw hits the floor - it took a minute even for the haters to compose themselves. No, I am not disappointed. I now admire Mariah more than I ever did!!

I see what you are saying, but this has nothing to do with woman's rights (Which Mariah sets back by being nothing more than hot eye candy) or anything anything else of that nature.
Mariah didn't need to respond to him because (1) She's greater than he would ever be and should feel the need to waste her time.
(2) Shouldn't let some clown dictate what her creative influence should be about. It is about HER art, about HER music, and about HER talent. Responding to him made HER focus on something other than those aforementioned things. Finally,
(3) Let this dope talk all that he wants. We know he has to do that to fuel his career. The fact is, his star was starting to fade over four years ago. You don't see people going gaga over him now do you? She did nothing but give him another 15 minutes. Trust he will use it and be more vulgar and attack her on EVERYTHING now.

How is this video any different from what she has done before? It's just like every other video she has done in the past seven or eight years.
She never grows or changes. While people feel that this type of music sells and is great, it WON'T sell for a 40 year old woman trying to remain in her 20's. She should have come with something more mature.

just watched it again and i thought it was pretty cool vid. its not a lot of action but using her as an obsession will kill you is what i think of this video. Song it great and i can tell why she made this video.

Love the haters on here that claim 2 have been fans & do nothing but critique. I'm 31 & have been a fan from day 1. Videos are supposed to be visual not some political analytical statement. Although not my favorite video, I find many parts amusing.Brett Ratner & Mariah always do funny videos together. Sorry you can't really speak up for every fan, cause there are some so called fans that aren't fans, or worse expect nothing less then absolute perfection from Mariah & if she shows that she's human in any way they consider her a failure. It's nauseating. Still 1 of my fav. videos she's done just on the costumes & bus scene alone.

Same ole boring Mariah "I'm so pretty ad famous" video for a song that's already slid out of the top ten downloads on iTunes. Next week, it slides out of the top 20 on billboard. It's over. Suck it lambs. She hasn't done anything new in over 10 years.
I give the music video 8 out of 10 for very nice but could've been better.
It is visually beautiful, the stalker thing is a very interesting concept, I also like the fact that Mariah Carey herself plays BOTH herself and the stalker. She does a great job looking like a real stalker through eye expressions and other body languages. I recognized that her acting has got a lot better.
The only reason I take off 2 points is that there could have been some sort of a story or mystery to be uncovered at the end of the video, on top of the visual magnificence, and that would have made the video much more interesting and buzz worthy. The stalker concept was a perfect chance to create a mystery / story, and I deeply regret that they did not fully utilize what the concept was offering.
I think Obsessed is clever and not on the level of EM at all, if it were a response. A totally fun "ROAST" of someone, or some people, possibly. I am always impressed at how well she can move among the many musical styles. Gospel, ballads, hip hop. I am one of those people who was encouraged and inspired by some of her classics. Anytime You Need a Friend, Make It Happen, I Wish You Well and just got into Hero, recently. And can blow out my speakers with Breakdown, Lil L.O.V.E. and Obsessed. An unbelievable talent, who just so happens to be beautiful. From what I understand, more serious tracks (read ballads) are also on her new cd. The thing about Mariah is that you can't put her into a box - her talent is just too big for that.
The video is a typical Mariah Lead Single vid. All great artists with staying power always stick to their trademarks, so I guess MC could as well. If she jabs at Eminem, good on her for doing it in a fun way and not as gross as Eminem has done in the past. Let us hope she does a real gem for the next single, something different, that also would not be too bad.
After watching the video I'm not sure who is more obssessed with who anymore.
E=MC2 was a disappointment and the new song does not offer anything new or better.We'll have to wait to listen to the whole record. Me, personally I've been waiting 19 years for an album that makes history for its quality and inventiveness rather than sales. The Emancipation was closed to be it, I'm not sure she can do it anymore.

I love the kids and their "hater" talk. We know she's an attractive woman. Somehow everyone has forgotten that she can (or could) actually sing. Oh that's right, since she put the emphasis on everything else but her vocal talent, I guess that would stand to reason why. She's a step away from being a soft core porn actress now...and she is treated and referenced that way accordingly. That is of her own doing. You present yourself in a certain way, that is how you will be looked upon.
If people want this Mariah to continue so bad little sheep's...why is this song completely tanking? Her high debut is due to sales of the single, NOT airplay. Get the excuses ready, cause she is going to lose this one and it will be another lost opportunity to remind people of the vocal artist that she used to be.

I MET HER IN CANNES IN FRANCE she was beautifull i love her music. shes great. i love her old hits more than new stuff her voice and songs have got me though some dark times in my life. cant wait for new album. im always inpressed at her different ways of singing to all levels of music.
