Vampires rule People's Choice; Twilight, True Blood & Vampire Diaries win; see full list of winners

Twilight's Lautner helped snag 4 People's Choice Awards

Wednesday's People's Choice Awards started off with an odd little ditty by four-time host Queen Latifah, during which she spoofed Susan Boyle by singing a celebrity-name-dropping version of I Dreamed a Dream, the song Boyle sprang on the judges of Britain's Got Talent that subsequently ignited her remarkable rise to fame.  During the song, Latifah worked the star-studded crowd as she name-dropped nearly every celeb in the house.

From that point on, vampires ruled the night. Twilight was the night's biggest winner, winning four of the six awards they were up for.  Twilight won Favorite Movie Franchise and Favorite Movie; the trio of Robert Pattinson, Kristin Stewart and Taylor Lautner won Favorite On Screen Team while Lautner also won Breakout Movie Actor.

Small screen blood-suckers were also among the winners.  The CW's Twilight-lite, The Vampire Diaries took home their own newly designed People's Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama, besting Flash Forward, The Good Wife, NCIS: Los Angeles and my personal fav, V.  HBO's more adult-oriented vampire tale, True Blood won for Favorite TV Obsession.  Both Vampire Diaries and True Blood were nominated for Favorite Sci-Fi Show, but lost out to Supernatural.

Among the evening's highlights was Ellen DeGeneres taking home her 11th People's Choice Award, which also made for a nice transition to the winner of the award she was there to present, Favorite Comedy Movie, The Proposal.  DeGeneres joked that she had one award for each of Sandra Bullock's toes.  The joke being that it has been widely rumored that Bullock has an extra little piggy.

Johnny Depp's honor for Favorite Movie Actor of the Decade was met with a standing ovation.  The actor seemed genuinely humbled as he struggled to express his gratitude for the acknowledgement.

Besides Queen Latifah's opening number, the show contained only two other musical performances.  Mary J. Blige performed her hit single I Am.  Cobra Starship, a nominee for collaboration with Leighton Meester on the song Good Girls Go Bad took to the stage with recent reality judge and Pussycat Doll leader, Nicole Scherzinger filling in for Meester.

The remainder of the night flowed relatively smoothly, with the exception of two obvious sponsor-driven moments. Queen Latifah's awkward let's get a picture  with Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman was made even more uncomfortable when she turned to an audience member and said, "Hey seat-filler, take our picture."  The person she was addressing was either not a seat-filler or simply being a jerk and just looked at her with disdain. Latifah quickly turned around and spotted a willing seat-filler who was more than happy to take her Kodak camera and snap a photo.

The other strange sponsor-moment came when Glee won the People's Choice for Favorite New TV Comedy.  During their acceptance speech, members of the cast announced they had a special treat for the audience.  Gleeks like myself were ready for an impromptu a cappella song, instead they announced there was pizza for everyone. At which point, dozens of waiters carrying DiGiorno pizzas descended upon the audience.
