Green Day, George Strait, Free Press Summer Music Fest, UFC - now you must choose

What's with the ties?

 Decisions, decisions.

There's so much to do in H-Town tonight it's practically ludicrous. Why can't they spread these things out a little?  Unbelievable.

How's this for a Saturday night lineup.

First - the King of Country Music himself, Mr. George Strait at Reliant. Twang twang twang.

Second - Green Day at the Toyota Center.  Punk rock for everyone.

Third - Free Press Summer Music Fest at Eleanor Tinsley Park featuring indie rockers Of Montreal, Broken Social Scene, and Explosions in the Sky.  It's a hipster's dream come true.

Fourth - UFC 101, where Forrest Griffin will attempt to slay the Goliath that is Anderson Silva, and Kenny Florian will do the same against BJ Penn.

Goodness Gracious homeboy.  Here's some tidbits to help you make a wise decision.

GREEN DAY

First time I met these guys Billy Joe was sitting in his living room talking about schwerking his baloney and tearing up his couch with a knife.  There were feathers falling from the ceiling.  The song was called Dookie.  Or maybe that was the album.  Just to recap here we have dookie, masturbation, and sharp knives.  My kinda party!

Ah, punk rock.

They've come along way from that couch in that video.  Now they rock stadiums and are headed for the Hall of Fame.  Bam diggity amskie.

Toyota Center 7:30.

GEORGE STRAIT

Where the sidewalk ends!  And the road begins!  You said goodbye!  On a cold dark night!  Not afraid to go!  You bet I'm not!  Where the sidewalk ends, you left a lot!

They say inside every man there's a bulldoggin cowboy longin to get out.  Certain artists put you in touch with that cowboy better than others.  George Strait is one of these artists.  Understatement.

When I was in second and third grade, my mom got into a country and western dancin kinda mood and started listening to a bunch of throwed young players like Clint Black, Garth Brooks, The Judds, Randy Travis, and the inimitable George Strait.  It's been on ever since.

Reliant Stadium 7:30.

FREE PRESS SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Yeah buddy!  Let's get some rock and roll and some booze at the park!  Right!  Who's with me high five!

Two days.  Hipsters.  Tattoos.  Local bands.  Major indie headliners.

I don't know too much about Broken Social Scene, except that my cousin from Finland loves that sh*t. That should tell you all you need to know.  Of Montreal is supposed to be cool in a David Bowie offshoot kinda way, and Explosions in the Sky did the soundtrack for Friday Night Lights and they play good good good music brosef.

Don't forget about Devin the Dude, H-Town's proud son, on Sunday.  I am Zeldar!  From the planet Beldar!  We landed in field!  It was filled with green leafy plants!  So, we, smoked them!  How did we feel? Very good!

Eleanor Tinsley park.

UFC 101 – Silva vs. Griffin, Penn vs. Florian

Fight night baby.

Anderson Silva is the baddest dude on the planet.  They call him the Spider.  He picks opponents apart with his merciless onslaught of Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu.  He is arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world.  Forrest Griffin is a tough ass Irishman from Georgia.  He is the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.  He has beaten Rampage Jackson, Shogun Rua, and Keith Jardine when nobody thought he could.  This is going to be one helluva fight.

BJ Penn is one of the best and most skilled fighters in the world.  He has been absolutely untouchable in his weight class.  When he trains hard and prepares like he needs to for a fight, there are few fighters that can beat him.  Kenny Florian is the number one contender, a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and a dangerous striker who has improved vastly from his days on The Ultimate Fighter.  This will be BJ's toughest test at 155 so far.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Man.

You kinda feel like Indy when he has to choose that cup in The Last Crusade don't you?  I know I do.  So let's not mess this one up or we'll wind up getting really old, shriveling into a skeleton and dying in like five seconds.  JK.  No but seriously, wrong choice tonight and you'll die in five seconds.

Choose wisely.
