Yesterday on Oprah, Mackenzie Phillips shared with the world the news of the incestuous relationship with her father “Papa John” of the Mamas and the Papas who died in 2001, at the age of 65 from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse.
“I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father. I don't remember how it started or, thankfully, how it ended. Was it the first time? Had this happened before? I didn't know, and I still don't. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it. For a moment, I was in my body...in that horrible truth and then I slide back into a blackout. Your father is suppose to protect you."
"Mackenzie has a lot of mental illness. She's had a needle stuck up her arm for 35 years. She was arrested for heroin and coke just recently. She did Celebrity Rehab and now she writes a book. The whole thing is timed," Michelle Phillips, 65, said in a quote published by Roger Friedman of Showbiz411.com.
Michelle further adds, "Mackenzie is jealous of her siblings, who have accomplished a lot and did not become drug addicts," she told NBC.
China Phillips, Mackenzie's half sister says she supports her sister and has no reason to doubt what she says. According to NBC another sister, Bijou, and her brother, Tamerlane, have shown measured support.
Mackenzie further added on Todays Show that as far as she knew, none of her sisters were sexually abused by their dad. She further added "If you open a textbook on incest you can see a picture of the Phillips family," Phillips said. "We are behaving in a typical way. The instinct is to say it’s not true. The instinct is to deny. The instinct is to brush it under the table. The instinct is to protect the abuser.”
She concludes the interview by saying, "I love my family," she continued. "I understand this is very difficult, and to be revealed on a public level such as this makes it ever more difficult, and my heart goes out to them. I know that, God willing, as a family we will all be stronger when this dies down."

I think she needs the money from the sale of her book. Drugs are expensive. Her famous father could have had any girl he wanted. He probably did and she, as child growing up, knew that. I think she was probably neglected by him.
I think she has had a very turbulent life and could have been a result of all of this. Just because you're famous doesn't mean these type of things don't happen.
are you kidding me? What kind of idiot commented above me? Becky in Cleveland....she would have to be an evil demon person to make up an untruth like that, no one would EVER make up a story like that about their own father. She could have written a book about the drugs alone, and it would have sold! I am all for outting everyone on their issues, letting it out of the closet is the only way to heal. Her own siblings are SUPPORTING her you dumbass! ANY suppoer from family is hard to come by in this type of thing! Go MacKenzie, we hear you !
Unfortunately, yes.
