Red Rocks Community College offers training in renewable energy technologies

Red Rocks Community College serves 14,000 students annually with campuses in Lakewood and Arvada. The College’s Renewable Energy Technology Program has grown from 10 students in the fall of 2007 to 231 students currently. Students are gaining skills in high demand related to LEED green building, energy auditing, solar PV, and solar thermal.

Students pick either a Solar Thermal or Solar Photovoltaic Specialty as part of earning an associates degree or a renewable energy certificate. The degree requirements and certificate programs include classes in safety, roof framing materials and methods, energy technologies, energy audit techniques, solar panel installation, energy systems design, and construction technology.

The College was honored on January 29 with a 2008 Governor’s Excellence in Renewable Energy Award.  This award recognizes individuals, companies, and institutions who contribute to protecting Colorado’s environment and advancing clean power through the development, implementation, usage, and promotion of renewable energy.

There could be no better investment in America than to invest in America becoming energy independent! We need to utilize everything in out power to reduce our dependence on foreign oil including using our own natural resources. Create cheap clean energy, new badly needed green jobs, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. The high cost of fuel this past year seriously damaged our economy and society. The cost of fuel effects every facet of consumer goods from production to shipping costs. After a brief reprieve gas is inching back up. OPEC will continue to cut production until they achieve their desired 80-100. per barrel. If all gasoline cars, trucks, and SUV's instead had plug-in electric drive trains, the amount of electricity needed to replace gasoline is about equal to the estimated wind energy potential of the state of North Dakota. There is a really good new book out by Jeff Wilson called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence Now.
