Green Gigs is a website dedicated to listing job openings and information for people looking for home-based work that is environmentally focused. The listings include green writing assignments, green techie gigs, science geeks, eco-sales opportunities, and a catch-all category identified as enviro wild card.
The freelance job listings are updated on a regular basis throughout the week and are also a resource for identifying other green job listing sites. By following one such freelance lead I was able to find listings posted on the www.sustainablebusiness.com website in the “Green Dream Jobs” section. The Denver Zoo isn’t an employer that you would normally identify as offering green jobs, but it turns out they have a posting for a Sustainability Coordinator to maintain and improve sustainability efforts at the zoo.
In addition to job postings, the Green Gigs site has a wealth of information on job applications, telecommuting tips, and green lifestyle choices. The site has recently launched a series of articles that profile individuals working in green careers. It defines a “green job” as one that works to improve the environment in some manner and focuses solely on home-based jobs that fit the definition.

The best way for workers to cut back on CO2 emissions is to check out remote work options. Long distance commuting wastes gas and produces millions of tons of CO2 every day.
Home telecommuting is one option, however many workers do not have reliable facilities or a private work area in the home. Also, many workers feel isolated when they work alone all day in their home.
The answer is to allow workers to work out of a Remote Office Center located near their home. ROCs lease individual offices, internet and phone systems to workers from different companies in shared centers located around the city and suburbs.
ROCs are a fairly new option, but they can be found in many cities by searching the internet for "Remote Office Centers" in quotes.
