Ironman not liable in wrongful death lawsuit Federal jury finds in Panama City, Florida
A Florida Federal jury has found that Ironman and the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) is not liable for the death of Barney Rice who suffered a massive heart attack on the swim portion of Ironman Florida in 2006.
The estate of Rice sued North American Sports and the WTC for wrongful death, claiming that the Rice died because of slow response and inadequately trained medical personnel.
The defense claimed that, "Rice's heart attack was so massive, no one could have saved him."
The jury in the case, "agreed and found the defendants not guilty of negligence and therefore not liable for damages," according to WJHG.com.
