The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced that the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge (Route 106/156), which spans the James River between Prince George County and Charles City County, will be closed Monday, December 7, 2009 between 8am and 6pm for maintenance. The detours are approximately 28 miles one-way and VDOT suggests planning for a minimum 30-minute detour.
Northbound detour: Rt. 10 west through Hopewell to I-295 north to Rt. 5 (Exit 22) west through Henrico County.
Southbound detour: Rt. 5 west into Henrico County to I-295 south to Rt. 10 (Exit 15) east through Hopewell.
This detour will have a major impact on EMS crews that normally transport to John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell via the bridge, so please plan alternate routes now.
