How much do you spend on children's clothes?

Cool clothes, gifts, and equipment for kids

Living in a four season climate can multiply the already absurd cost of children's clothing. Compounding this issue further are the items which are only worn twice, the outgrown shoes, and the out of season items which won't fit next year.

Two days ago I walked into Hipster's (Chagrin Falls) which opened in June to fill the need for a high end children's consignment boutique selling clothing, equipment, and new gift items. I bought three sweaters for $15.64 (including tax). All three items have name brand labels and they're in perfect condition. (My daughter went nuts for them when I got home)

The undeniable boutique vibe is no accident; it doesn't feel like a thrift shop and neither do the clothes. Owners Rebecca Mills and Kristin Reboul focus on condition of the items and how current the fashions are. In fact items only remain in the store for 90 days. I even found a Juicy Couture cashmere sweater which I considered trying on myself! In addition to the clothing, Hipster's sells equipment (except car seats, cribs, or gates) and beautiful new gift items including locally handmade accessories.

Despite the brand new hot fashions, Hipster's is a consignment shop and is NOT a resale shop. The difference is in the benefit to the shoppers and consignors. Shoppers get fashionable and inexpensive name brand items in a beautiful store with a constantly changing inventory (every 90 days). Consignor's make more money than at a resale shop because in essence they partner with the store.

Hipster's offers an online portal where consignor's can track their items for sale in real time. Once the sale is made, the consignor can:

* Cash out their portion of the sale in person at the store
* Use their credit for Hipster's merchandise
* Wait for a quarterly check to be mailed

Kristin and Rebecca have even thought of a fantastic way to move-on unsold items. After 90 days, the consignor has the option to either pick up the items or have them donated to WomenSafe (WomenSafe provides emergency shelter and support services for survivors of domestic violence in Northeast Ohio). The consignor receives a tax deduction, Hipster's clears out space for new fabulous items, and WomenSafe client's benefit tremendously.

Hipster's is the only consignment boutique of its kind from Mentor to Hudson. So the next time you need a pair of dress shoes for your son, or a beautiful birthday gift, stop by Hipster's. They even gift wrap!
