Harlot SF emblem.
Last night was a head to head between the underground hideaway playground and the front door access boudoir for house music. Both Vessel and Harlot had booked local SF DJ's for their Thursday night slots. After the last week of Loco Dice, Cedric Gervais, Kaskade, Danny Tenaglia, Miguel Migs, and etd.Pop that included Deadmau5, Ferry Corsten, and Paul Van Dyk, SF hit the breaks with the big name DJ's and opted for a more mellow Thursday night. Vessel booked local SF DJ Christian Martin from Dirtybird, which is a group of 10 artists, including the international DJ, Claude VonStroke; and at Harlot's tables was Franky Boissy, the previous resident DJ at Pink.
During a night when two equally matched DJ's collide at two equally matched locals, which triumphs? Vocal house. Franky Boissy at Harlot won over the SF House scene that was out last night with his deep melodic house. If attendance is the main criteria for assessment, Harlot definitely beat out Vessel with a full, yet not packed, venue. Although both Martin and Boissy threw down a good set of deep house, Boissy opted for a more vocal and soul feel while Martin took it to a more electro sound with a consistent pulse. Look out for future events by these two clubs, because they are competing for the same upscale yet urban demographic in SF.
