EVs will rekindle passion and answer special market niches

EVs are rekindling passion again

Imagine a world where your vehicle is almost as unique as you are and is geared towards what you need, not what you are being told you want?  This reality could come sooner than you think.

The gist is that the modern run of the mill common car is boring at best, devoid of any passion and flat out bland.  It takes little to see why drivers find little enthusiasm with modern cars.  They are meant to appeal to such a wide audience that they lose any personality and appeal.  How many cars do you find on the streets right now you would like to own?  It was not always like that.  Electric vehicles, EV are changing this, at last.

EVs With Personalities.  Up until now, only a few people screamed for cars to represent consumers better and bring back passion with the fun of driving.  It seems we are not the only ones anymore.  According to a McKinsey and Company report, EVs should aim to target specific market segments instead of trying to win a wide range appeal.  This makes perfect sense, since we have seen what the results are with cars designed to do everything without mastering anything.  They quickly get boring and lack any enthusiasm.  EVs are changing this.

Having cars specifically designed for what drivers needs and not what companies want to see with their bottom line finances makes a lot of sense.  It means EV makers have to work with more companies and allow their platforms to be more flexible in order to "customize" them for consumers.  Imagine having a choice of EVs, some tweaked for highway cruising, while other for grocery shopping?

It is good to hear this report coming out that points to an obvious truth.  The old business model of one size fits them all killed the car industry.  We need fresh engineers with innovative solutions, topped with designer's unbridled skills and finally car companies that give what car drivers want, not what the accounting department likes.  It will be a balancing act.
