JJ Ament walked away with a resounding victory over Ali Hasan a the state GOP Convention. Hasan did not have sufficient time to petition onto the ballot after failing to garner the necessary 30% of the delegate vote. Walker Stapleton, however, took the petition road early, and skipped the convention to ensure that he did not fail to garner the mandatory 10% of the delegate vote needed to petition on after a convention loss.

History

While the pre-convention battle between JJ Ament and Ali Hasan became heated late in the game, the Primary battle between Ament and Walker Stapleton has so far remained a clean affair. Neither candidate can afford to spend too much time or money badgering each other if they hope to have enough ammunition left to defeat Incumbent Democrat Cary Kennedy.

JJ Ament has worked professionally advising state treasurers and other government financial officers on behalf of employer Citigroup, but left the company to pursue State Treasurer. Walker Stapleton, who has opened a noteworthy fundraising lead on Ament, is a real estate investor in Colorado.

Poll

Both Republican candidates trail in fundraising and popularity to Democratic Incumbent Cary Kennedy. Paltry fundraising numbers sported by Ament and Stapleton will not be an issue once one is declared a Primary victor, and the winner will be able to muster similar numbers to the incumbent in August, September & October.

While Kennedy is popular for an incumbent treasurer, statewide voting leans Republican, and that combination indicates a tight General Election race.
