Who would have even thought of Northern Indiana if you were told you needed to improve your memory? If you are in doubt you need to rethink the situation. The South Bend or Michiana area has a dark berried fruit that is known for the huge festival in September. This berry is called a blueberry. It has been scientifically proven to improve memory in older adults.
According to the American Chemical Society, "Scientists are reporting the first evidence from human research that blueberries — one of the richest sources of healthful antioxidants and other so-called phytochemicals — improve memory."
The ACS did a study with 2 groups of volunteers with diminishing memories. The volunteers were in their 70's. One group drank the equivalent of 2-2 1/2 cups of blueberry juice every day for 2 months. While the other group had a beverage without blueberries. The group that had the real blueberry juice showed improvement in their learning and memory tests.
For all of us living in South Bend area, this is great news, as we have so many local blueberry farms where we can go and pick our berries. This summer, if picking your own blueberries isn't what you want to do, head to Mac's Market where you can purchase fresh blueberries. Mac's Market is located at 2083 US Highway 31, (US 6 and US 31), Lapaz, IN.

That's awesome. I didn't know blueberries helped with memory. I know pilots often eat blueberries for the improved night vision it offers them. They are also FANTASTIC for urinary tract infections, better than cranberries. Truly a wonder fruit for all occasions. Lucky us that they are so dang yummy, too!
