The Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging is providing checks to local seniors through the (SFMNP) Senior Farmer's Market Check Program for purchasing locally produced fresh fruits and vegetables. Check your local senior center after July 7, 2009 to get your checks.
UPDATE - This is a correction and clarification on the date these checks will be available. That is ONLY on July 7, 2009.
Here are some of the eligibility requirements:
• Allegheny County resident
• 60+ years of age (this year)
• 2009 total household income eligibility:
• $ 20,036 (single individual)
• $ 26,955 (married couple)
• Consumers must bring documented (such as a driver’s license) proof of age and
Allegheny County residence when picking up checks, or have a proxy form filled out to allow another person pick up the checks.
This is a great program that can help the elderly living under limited income, as well as promoting healthy eating habits.
If you have an elderly family member or know someone who meets the requirements, print out this information and/or take them to a local Farmer's Market and help them get some free, healthy food for the summer!
