Cleary University, the business school with campuses in Ann Arbor and Howell, is offering a MBA in Green Business Strategy. In its second year, the online degree program is designed to prepare mid-career working adults for advancement to positions of increasing responsibility and leadership roles in green organizations.
“In the new energy economy, we will produce our energy locally, instead of shipping billions of dollars out of the region and out of the country,” said Mark Cryderman in a press release. Cryderman is a Cleary University instructor and market development manager for The Green Panel, a Brighton-based solar PV design and install firm. “This will be a huge job creator, with a large percentage of Americans working in both the energy industries and the energy conservation industries. Those who embrace this concept now will have the early knowledge advantage, positioning them to be the energy leaders of the future.”
The Michigan Green Jobs Report 2009 found that because of Michigan’s “advanced manufacturing expertise, our depth of talent and our local access to original equipment manufacturers and suppliers, we are poised to create tens of thousands of good-paying green jobs for Michigan workers.” The report also stated that “despite the need for some specialized skills, employers have stressed that workers still need the basics. Green skills are an overlay of new skills and knowledge; and learners cannot access the new knowledge without the requisite foundation.”
In addition to the Michigan Green Jobs Report findings, in October 2009, the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) identified 169 green occupations that are either ‘increased demand’ occupations, ‘enhanced skills’ occupations or ‘new and emerging’ occupations.
“Even in today's economy, there is a substantial growth in ‘green’ jobs,” said Cryderman. “This offers immediate opportunities for those who take steps to become educated in sustainability.”
The MBA in Green Business Strategy at Cleary University emphasizes development and application of a broad set of skills needed to succeed in this rapidly challenging business transformation process. Topics include all facets of green enterprise management including sustainability, human capital, finance, marketing and operations. Graduates pursue careers in manufacturing, health care, government and service sector positions. The program is currently accepting students from all backgrounds.
