Sen. Edward Kennedy: 'I lost a friend' -- Labor Secretary Hilda Solis

This is a sequel to my article entitled, "Kennedy: A loss to education  sector" dated August 26, 2009 in the light of Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis' statement giving special tribute to Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Solis, who heads DOL, the department that oversees vocational education through the 122 Job Corps Centers all over the country, took special tribute to Kennedy's efforts in advancing education, among others, as a major cog in the nation's development.

Secretary Solis, in her statement issued the other day said,  "A tireless champion of working people, Sen. Kennedy  dedicated his life to making America a better place. Over the past half century, his efforts shaped every major piece of legislation advancing the labor and civil rights, education, health care and economic well-being of past, current and future generations."

Ted Kennedy recognized education as a potent force for people to move forward in their life and a tool in giving  them courage to keep on dreaming.

"To Hilda (referring to Solis), college seemed an impossible dream. But education is  the golden door to the American dream which helped bring the impossible dream within reach, and she made the most of it," said Ted Kennedy about Solis after the latter was presented the Profile in Courage Award on May 21, 2000 with Kennedy as a member of the selection committee.
