Educators can now buy and sell gently used classroom supplies as well as new overstocked educational resouces on a new website called Hoot of Loot.

Hoot of Loot is the first website of its kind to allow registered schools, teachers and home school parents to place inexpensive classified ads on a website that specializes in school-related items.

School supply companies and retail companies can also sell their surplus educational items on the site.

How to Post an Ad for Teacher Supplies

To post an ad, users need to sign up for an account and pay a fee of a dollar or less per ad. They can then post their items into well-organized categories that can be easily searched by site visitors.

“We think a low cost classified ad is better than free classifieds, because people are more likely to post desirable products that relate to the web site,” said Edward Shane, a web designer who created the website with his wife Cheryl.

“It not only provides current teachers the ability to update their classrooms for a fraction of the cost, but it also enables retired teachers to dispose of unneeded items.”

Cheryl Shane, a teacher in Oklahoma public schools for the past eleven years, agrees with her husband and business partner.

“Books or instructional materials that are still perfectly usable get disposed of or buried in storage rooms everyday,” she explains.

Cheryl Shane said that many people are not aware of how much teachers will spend of their own personal money to buy supplies for their classrooms.

“With constant budget cuts to education, teachers are forced to purchase their own educational supplies or do without,” she said.

“Hoot of Loot helps teachers reclaim some of their investment and purchase educational items at a fraction of the cost.”
