Many Maryland elementary schools, from Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Baltimore City to Conowingo Elementary School in Cecil County, celebrate the 100th day of school, which will take place during the second or third week of February, depending on when that school system went back to school. This fun holiday is a great opportunity for teachers to reinforce counting skills, using graphs and charts and a variety of other math skills.
Some schools are asking children to bring 100 pieces of food to school to throw a party, but unwrapped food could be pretty unsanitary. Here are some better options for teachers to ask for as they plan their celebration:
- Stickers
- Die cuts or simple paper shapes that could be cut by hand like hearts
- Crayons
- Beads
- Buttons
- Pennies
- Beans
- Wrapped candies
- Stones
- Pieces of yarn
