Within hours after the Obama administration’s Labor Department announced that the national unemployment rate now stands at 10.2%, and that the American economy suffered a net loss of 190,000 jobs in September, President Obama today signed the bill extending unemployment benefits to a maximum of 99 weeks. Just a week after Obama claimed that his administration’s stimulus legislation has saved or created up to a million jobs, nationwide unemployment hit the highest level in a quarter century. As he signed the bill, President Obama said, “I won’t rest until America prospers once again.”
House Minority Leader John Boehner ripped administration policies as soon as the Labor Department monthly report was released. “Today’s report is yet another reminder that American families and small businesses are still struggling, and the White House response is falling short. A jobless recovery and double digit unemployment are not what the American people were promised.”
Wisconsin Senator Russell Feingold says he will introduce a jobs tax credit bill to prime the employment pump, and Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed is proposing a “work-share” law similar to those in effect in 17 states, which would allow businesses to avoid layoffs by cutting work hours and using unemployment benefit funds to make up a portion of the cuts.
House Ways and Means Income Security Subcommittee Chairman Jim McDermott proposes to introduce a bill before year end extending unemployment benefits through all of 2010, at a cost of up to 85 billion. Remarking about the immense cost of such a benefit extension, Congressman Kevin Brady of Texas remarked that the proposal “begs the question: ‘Where are the Jobs?’ While long term unemployed workers appreciate the additional unemployment benefit help in the bill, what they really want are jobs.” McDermott responded “We might as well do what needs to be done. Some of my colleagues are hoping the tooth fairy will suddenly turn the economy around and we’ll all be better. I don’t think it’s going to come back that quickly.”

YEA HA, it passed before I was on my death bed and let me add, we unemployed are good people. At least we are not eating horses, not that we ever would, thank God.
I'm Country Carl the Artist and Advocate for additional unemployment benefits on Unemployment-Gone-Mad dot com. Across this great country the pawn shops were the only ones mining gold. As we waited for an unemployment extension, thousands more became dumpster divers, tent pitchers and street corner beggars. Even pets were becoming a burden for tearful owners and freaking out when they became abandon. So my hat is off to those of you who finally saw the light, because these New Depression Blues times can drag a good man to the bottle. Bless you Senators my beer summit is to you old farts. Here is another big YEA HA from Country Carl. So google me up and cheer along, you actually did it.
No help at all for people whose unemployment already ran out or are underemployed.
"Begs the question, where are the jobs?" Every thinking American instinctively knows the answer to that question. It really isn't that difficult of a process. Jobs come primarily from small business. Are we doing anything to help small business? Are they looking at potential new costs with the elimination of the Bush Tax cuts? Are they looking at higher energy costs with Cap & trade? Are they looking at potential news costs/ taxes with the proposed Healthcare legislation? Can the get loans from the banks that are being shoved around by Obama? Are they any incentives in place to promote investment? Does anybody really wonder why they aren't hiring, but instead cutting jobs? We know what works, but there is no inclination to do anything but follow a left leaning ideology, which is not pro business. Yes we can blame this on the Obama adminsitration, this is their choice.
What would even be nicer is if the extension would take effect as of Oct 1st and we would not have to struggle to get caught up, since most of our benefits expired September 30th
is this going to happen?? I first read MID DECEMBER which is ludicrous for the 1st chek but... a RI paper is saying it's sending it's notification letters out NOV 9 (MONDAY)... and benefits BEGIN ending the week of the 14th-- CAN ANYONE VERIFY this??... can't get thru to unemployment of course..... !!
THANK GOD FOR MIRACLES ;)
Charlie, did your father molest you when you were a kid. Because I'v never heard more of a warped comment in which you have left. I hope you go straight to hell you son of a bitch!

has anyone really read how long the EUC will last in Ohio. Go to the unemployment web site for the state of Ohio and read. All federal EUC benifits will stop on 12/26/09. Read the text depending on dates you will not be able to draw all 4 tiers of extensions.
Got something to say?
