In the face of legislative proposals to cut off all federal money flowing to ACORN, Democratic leaders in Congress are turning their sights against the folks who secretly taped an ACORN worker's "how to avoid taxes on your brothel" video making the rounds on TV and the internet. House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank have insisted that the Congressional Research Service investigate whether the video was made in violation of federal and state recording consent laws, and Congressman Jerrold Nadler wants CRS to check out whether legislative denial of funds to ACORN by name is constitutional at all
Shocked that such an apparently corrupt group commands so much Congressional clout, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor issued this statement: "Every member of Congress should be embarrassed that taxpayer money was used to fund an organization as corrupt as ACORN, particularly those who pushed for that funding time and time again."
