If you are looking to escape the recent heat surge in Los Angeles, why not try an excursion north to one of the most sustainable luxury hotels in North America: Bardessono Hotel Restaurant, and Spa. A little more than a year old, the 62-room hotel, spa, and restaurant received the highest certification possible from the United States Green Building Council, LEED Platinum - an honor shared by only three other hotels in the world.
The luxury resort was developed by Phil Sherburne with insight from local artisans merging contemporary aesthetics with local traditions and techniques ensuring little disruption was made to the surrounding Yountville property in the heart of Napa Valley. Proving that luxury and sustainability can go hand-in-hand, Bardessono runs on 50% less electricity than similarly sized accommodations thanks to nearly 1000 solar panels. In addition, intelligent designed rooms utilize plenty of day light while offering stylish accommodations to satisfy the most discerning visitors looking to escape to Napa for a weekend (or longer).
Behind the scenes, LED Lighting, smart fixtures (including dual flush toilets), a water recycling program (treating all gray and black water for irrigation uses), a creek-side protection plan, and a compost initiative help contribute to Bardessono's commitment to sustainability. One of the more subtle environmental touches that can be found throughout the property is the use of recycled cypress wood both under foot and overhead in the floors, ceilings, desks, and doors. On the menu, guests can choose from locally brewed beer, Blue Bottle Coffee, and a selection of delectable organic choices put together by acclaimed chef Sean O'Toole.
Those who still want to enjoy the property, but find it to be a little out of budget, have no fear! Visitors and locals alike are more than welcome to indulge in the Bardessono's Dive Bar Pool Parties occurring every 3rd Wednesday of the month at the rooftop pool through October. Every Saturday, from 9am-10:15 the door is open for those interested in some morning yoga, and complimentary garden tours begin at 10:30am. No time to indulge on the weekends? Try Yoga Monday evening from 7pm-8:15pm or Happy Hour Tuesday through Thursday from 5pm-8pm. Still not enticing enough, there's still plenty to take in at Bardessono's restaurant or spa, if you're only able to stay during the day.
