Unemployed Navy mom auctions right to name baby on eBay

100,000 Baby Names

An unemployed mom of six in Arkansas has come up with a clever way to make some extra cash on eBay. She is selling the rights to name her 7th child.

Lavonne Drummond, an unemployed mother of six children, is expecting her 7th child in September. She was brainstorming for ways to improve her financial situation, and the idea of selling the rights to name the baby just popped into her head.

The auction started at $150, and as of this writing, the bidding is up to $820. Click here to see the actual listing. Check out the Q & A section where one eBayer suggested that Mrs. Drummond should "Stop shooting out children like Pez." According to eBay management, the auction does not violate any rules.

Mrs. Drummond's husband serves in the Navy and is stationed in Virginia. She has not told him of the auction. The auction states that the money will be used for, "a new car, baby clothes, and if someone is generous enough, a new house." If Mrs. Drummond gets enough money from this auction to buy a new house, we may see the pregnancy rate in America drastically increase as new moms flock to eBay to auction the rights to name their children. I wonder how much someone would pay to name my goldfish. Read the full article on Fox News.com.

she says her husband left here and the military wont help her with getting help for the kids even though if I am not mistaken she should be getting a check from them for the family expense.

Her husband is bringing in, as an E-6 (his pic is on their eBay profile), 3370 in base pay, 324 in food, and over 1600 in housing a month. Food and housing allownaces are not taxable, so he is clearing nearly 2K in free cash. This reeks of a scam; if you read her Q&A she is "he left us" (you left him, he is at his duty station), it was 18 years of adultery (yet you added kids to the mix, and stayed), that he will retire but is in a non-pay status (no such thing for active duty folks).

Saw in another article that her husband is in military prison and has no military income at present. Her oldest kids are 19 & 16. Those two kids need to get jobs. Three of her kids are 1, 2 & 3 years old, so whatever trouble her marriage is in, hubby has been around some, unless he isn't their father. The first thing she needs to do with her ebay money is have her tubes tied.
