Hall of Fame Award 2008
As the official eBay Examiner, I wanted to introduce myself with this first article so you could get to know me a bit better.
I've been selling on eBay since 1997. Started during the beanie baby craze. During the time I was a single mom raising three children and working three jobs in the Chicago area.
Soon I was able to raise enough money to put a down payment on a house in Florida. As an eBay seller I knew I could work anywhere in the world. I could take my job with me on the road no matter what state I was in or where I was at. eBay kept open the door of opportunity, the door of income and the door of security for myself and my family.
In 2007 I became an education specialist trained by eBay. I took the official eBay course that was taught through eBay university. My teaching career was launched as my children grew and were not so demanding. They soon left for college and I then had more time to reach new heights of success with eBay.
Maintaining a silver powerseller status, teaching eBay and accepting consignment items on a regular basis from the locals was a regular thing in our household. eBay carried on to pay our bills and provide for our family for years.
In 2008 I had the honor to be one of the recipients of the eBay Hall of Fame award. That same year I was awarded the 2008 Golden Ribbon Award, Community Seller from eBay Giving Works.
Since then I've been teaching eBay at Central Florida community college and at University of North Florida. Teaching in my home office I've had people travel from all over the state of Florida to attend my classes.
Now as the official eBay Examiner, I will do my best to provide my readers with the best quality eBay news made available directly from the source at eBay headquarters!

I am looking forward to hearing more about the newest changes eBay announced 7/27/09. There is a lot of confusion about what all this means. Glad you are here!
Ebay and PayPal seem to be supporting theft/fraud by allowing dishonest ebay buyers to claim that the seller sent an item "Significantly Not As Described", known as a SNAD complaint. PayPal will automatically refund the buyer's money on the condition that the buyer send SOMETHING with Delivery Confirmation to the seller. PayPal doesn't care what is inside the package sent by the buyer to the seller. It could be a similar item, wads of paper or nothing. As long as PayPal receives a Delivery Confirmation number from the dishonest buyer, PayPal refunds. The dishonest buyer gets to keep the seller's item AND the seller's money.
My question is, how can an ebay seller protect themselves from ebay and paypal's flawed SNAD system and the dishonest SNAD buyers who take advantage of it?
Thanks and good luck with your column!

Hello Jay, thanks for the good luck!
I know what you mean as I had something like that happen to me once but in the end I did get it resolved and PayPal did protect me.
The buyer did not return the item properly so I called the police and filed a local police report. Sent a copy of the report along with photos and copies of the emails from the buyer that clearly proved he was a crook.
I was able to prove my case.
PayPal staff treated me very kind. Just had to be a bit patient while it was being investigated and in the end I did get my money back!
So, the best tip I can give you, especially on high dollar items is to insure, use signature confirmation, take photos and keep track of emails.
All the best,
Danna
