I bought a bunch of Granny Smith apples at the store this past week. In trying to come up with a dessert recipe last night, I mixed a few of my favorites all together to create this pie. Serve warm with ice cream, and it's the perfect fall treat. The smell of this pie baking says, "bring on the fall!"
Apple Crumb Pie
- 5 c. thinly sliced apples
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. cornflakes
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. oatmeal
- 1/4 c. flour
- 3 TBS. margarine
- 1 unbaked deep dish pie shell
Slice apples into a large bowl and toss with granulated sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle corn flakes into the bottom of the crust. Pour apple mixture over cornflakes in the pie crust. In a medium bowl crumb together with a fork: brown sugar, oatmeal, flour, and margarine. Pour crumb mixture on top of apples. Place pie unto a baking sheet to catch any overflow and prevent a mess in the oven. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 - 50 minutes or until lightly browned.
