A bit spicy, and totally juicy!
This is an amazingly different recipe for grilled cheeseburgers. It was a big hit with my family. You could make the taco seasoning from scratch if you are feeling crafty, but I just used a packet from the grocery store.
- Taco burgers
- 1 packet dried taco seasoning
- 1.5 lb. ground hamburger
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- Dressings
- 7 hamburger buns
- cheddar jack cheese for topping
- lettuce, tomato, onion...
Combine the burger ingredients all together in a large bowl. Use your hands to make sure all the ingredients are combined. Lightly form into patties and press into shape. Place on a plate and stick back in the fridge for a bit while you get the rest of your meal ready. Hamburgers patties that are chilled are less likely to fall apart on the grill. Keep them under one inch thickness, so they cook evenly.
Fire up your grill, oiling it up after it is preheated. Place the patties on the grill, over medium coals. They should sizzle when they hit the grill. Higher heat keeps them from sticking and gives great grill marks.
Close the lid, and don't flip them too soon. Let them grill for about four minutes or so before flipping. Flipping too early can also cause them to break apart. Don't squish those patties! You will lose precious flavor if you flatten out the patties on the grill.
After about 8-10 minutes of total cooking time, or until your desired doneness, take the patties off the grill and toast your buns a few minutes.
Place the burgers on the buns, dress as desired and serve hot! This is such an unusual mix, they really taste like tacos! This recipe makes about seven good-sized burgers that fit on grocery store buns.
Time-Saving Tips: This recipe would double or even triple just fine for a large gathering. You could make these burgers up to two days in advance of your party.

I LOVE your slideshows, Liz. Another good hint for making burgers that I learned from my culinary idol, Bobby Flay, is to make a thumb indentation in the middle of the burger so they don't "poof" up in the middle. Works every time.
Looks delicious!
