Has your toddler gone through a stage where they refuse a certain type of food? Many toddlers will pass on certain vegetables or meat all together. This can be frustrating for parents as they strive to provide well balanced meals throughout the day. If your toddler has begun to shun chicken, beef, or pork, you are not alone.
Don't give up on your toddler. Try looking for new and creative ways to serve meats. Many kids will push away plain chicken or beef but will scarf down fast food items such as chicken nuggets. As a parent, you may feel guilty giving such foods. Try recreating some of these fast food favorites at home. Your toddler will most likely not even notice the difference, but you will.
Home made chicken nuggets:
Ingredients:
- 1 large or 2 small boneless, skinless chicken breast (cut into cubes)
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1 Tbsp parmesan cheese
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1 egg white
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 1/2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
Mix bread crumbs, cheese, paprika, and oregano in a shallow dish. Cut chicken into 1 -2 inch cubes. Coat with flour and then dip in egg whites. Place chicken chunks into bread crumb mixture and roll around to coat. Heat oil in a small skillet over medium heat, allowing it to coat the bottom. Place chicken chunks into skillet and cook for about 3 minutes on each side. Cut open to test if fully cooked. Allow to cool before serving.
