Cynthia Chavarria born in Garden Grove Ca, on March 30th 1992 was the winner of this contest. She is the only daughter out of a family of 7whom she proudly states is very religious. Growing up Cynthia was faced with many hardships. One of hardships that stood out in her life was when one of her brothers "Jose" was diagnosed with cancer in his throat. She was just five years old at the time. The family was devastated, and even more when their family doctor told them that there is nothing they could do to remove it. Thankfully the family found a doctor in Tijuana who was able to help in the curing of Jose. Years down the road Cynthia was to be 15 years old and they were planning her Quincenera. (A Mexican tradition where a young girl enters womanhood) However at the age of 14 Cynthia was notified of horrific news. Her father was diagnosed with Kidney cancer. Cynthia decided to not celebrate her Quincenera due to medical costs of her father’s treatment and she felt it was better to celebrate it when her father was better. Cynthia expressed that even in the hardest time her father was able to keep a smile and keep her laughing. On her 15th birthday Cynthia's father gave her 15 sunflowers as they were her favorite. As time progressed Cynthia's father's health didn't. Eventually they found a doctor in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico who specializes in kidney cancer. With the hopes of being cured Cynthia’s father was sent off to Mexico. Couple of months down the line Cynthia was also sent to Mexico to spend some time with her father. When she arrived Cynthia was destroyed because the man she saw didn't look like her father. The cancer her father had was at a very developed stage and unfortunately her father did not make it.
During the interview you could see the pain yet strength in Cynthia’s eyes. She is a beautiful young girl inside and out. Congratulations to her and her family as her wishes were granted. It might not have been a Quincenera but this gift seems to fit the spot since this night was all about her.
“Just keep going! Things happen for a reason. I think my reason was I wasn’t as close to my mom as I was with my dad and they are both equally important to me. Value your loved ones every day, you will never know when or if you might lose them.” Some words of advice from Cynthia.
